Melbourne Record for Most People Wearing Superhero Costumes

The Guinness World Record for the most number of people wearing superhero costumes in one location has been broken in Melbourne.

The previous Guinness World Record of 1091 people wearing super hero costumes in the one place held by Britain was smashed as 1245 people - dressed as Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, the Green Lantern and other comic book heroes - gathered at Federation Square.

Superman was the most popular hero, closely followed by Batman, Robin and Spider Man. The girls were out in force too, dressed as Wonder Woman, Cat Woman, Super Girl and Hawk Girl.

The event was held to celebrated the 75th anniversary of the release of the first DC comic.

Meet Giant George, the World’s Tallest Dog

A Blue Great Dane called George that stands at nearly 43 inches tall and weighs a staggering 245lbs, has been recognised as the tallest dog by the Guinness Books of Records. Pictured here in the parks of Tuscon, Arizona, George, a four-year-old, looks more like a miniature horse than a dog.

The giant, who measures 7ft 3ins from nose to tail, could be a prime contender to take the title from the former record holder, Gibson, a harlequin Great Dane who passed away from cancer last August.

Now George's owners, David and Christine Nasser, are awaiting confirmation from Guinness World Records to see if he has achieved the lofty heights.

'He's 42.625 inches at the shoulder,' said David. 'He's very very unique.'
According to David, George consumes 110lbs of food every month, and sleeps alone in his own Queen Size Bed.

Skating Down a Rollercoaster

German daredevil Dirk Auer established a new world record when he raced down a 860-meter wood roller coaster track in under a minute. He maintained an average speed of 56 mph on custom skates that he built himself:

‘After this some of the sides were so high that at times I was at 90 degrees and so it was very important to have as much traction as possible. Luckily everything went according to plan - it was a lot of fun.’

Mr Auer, from Gross-Gerau near Frankfurt, is considered to be the most extreme in-line skater in the world.

He already holds the world record for reaching speeds of 190mph as he was dragged along behind a Porsche GT2.
